Adoption Process
Please note that we are one of less than 10 ethical breeders in the United States and we have an extensive adoption process. We pour our blood sweat and tears into our hobby, and we don't even come close to breaking even. In order to mitigate some of the cost we charge a total of $50/hamster pup, $25/breeder contract ham and if you adopt a retired hamster, or hamster sit for us or our babies, we waive the adoption fee. In order to get on the waiting list a $10 non-refundable deposit is required. We will collect the balance upon pick-up.
Here are the steps in order to adopt from Pearl Hamletry;
1) Review the ethical standards for enclosures and accessories outlined below.
2) Fill out this application:
docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfnGGyvFNbviW8GFeQbX_yWMcDENUYVugT_RHabi6athYC3kQ/viewform
3) Gather the supplies and set your cage up!
4) Email us a picture of you with your ethical enclosure and accessories.
5) Venmo a $10 non-refundable deposit to [email protected]. Please do not select goods and services because again we do not make a profit and are therefore not a business.
6) Wait for us to email you that a hamster has become available. The wait is typically between 3-12 weeks. If you don't want to wait you are welcome to get a petstore ham, but they are usually feral and/or sick and we don't not endorse this option. If applicable, we will email you pictures, or a video in order to be able to choose a pup from a litter. Please note that there may not always be multiply hamsters to choose from, but if you are up on the list and choose to pass you can hold your place for the next hamster or litter available. Due to Covid folx are no longer able to visit the hamstery and pick out a hamster in-person. We also are doing no contact pick-ups. This involves you paying for your hamster electronically, bringing a travel cage, putting it on my porch and then I will place your hamster in the carrier, to limit contact.
Ethical standards outline that enclosures should be a minimum of 600 square inches of unbroken floor space. Research shows that this reduces stress emitting behaviors such as pacing and excessive chewing.
- You can create an enclosure with a 50 gallon bin, rat wire and some screws or zip ties. If you would like instructions on how to make one, please let us know.

- Alternately most major pet stores carry 40 or 55 gallon tanks, screen lids and clips that will also meet these standards. Periodically they have sales where tanks are $1/gallon or 40% off. I can't post links to these sales because they are in-person only.

There are other cages out there that meet the requirements, but out of personal preference we may not endorse them on our website but would approve them in order to adopt a hamster.
Ethical hamster wheel requirements outline that they need to be a minimum of 10 inches in diameter. Smaller wheels can injure a hamster's delicate spinal cord and lead to pain.
Hamsters should be fed a lab block such as Teklad 8640 or Mazuri Rat & Mouse blocks:

A seed mix can also be added to encourage foraging:

If you need additional help finding an enclosure, food or accessories we would be happy to help!
